Privacy Policy

This notice explains what happens to personal data when you visit opensight.ch — the OpenSight website and blog. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it in plain words.

Who is responsible

OpenSight – Roman Hüsler
Einzelunternehmen (sole proprietorship) under Swiss law
Mühlegasse 17c, CH-4800 Zofingen, Switzerland
roman.huesler[at]opensight.ch

Roman Hüsler is the data controller for this website. There is no data protection officer — for a business this size, the address above reaches the person who decides.

This notice covers opensight.ch only. Our products run on their own domains (for example linkmesh.io and portal.opensight.ch) and carry their own notices.

What we collect, and why

1. Server and network logs

Every visit to a website leaves a record. Ours contain your IP address, the page you requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. We use them to keep the site running and to defend it against abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-RHM9B96QTF) to understand which articles people actually read and which ones nobody finds. It sets cookies in your browser and records pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, and rough device information.

We look at this in aggregate — which post did well, where did readers come from — not to identify individuals. We do not run advertising, we do not use it for ad targeting or remarketing, and we do not sell or share it with advertisers.

If you would rather not be counted, you can block analytics cookies in your browser settings or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

3. Email subscriptions

If you subscribe to the blog, we store your email address and, if you give it, your name. We use it to send you what you subscribed to, and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the subscription.

4. Early-access and waitlist pages

Some pages on this site invite you to join an early-access list for something we are considering building — for example our Patch Orchestration page. If you join one, we store your email address, and whatever you choose to tell us if you reply to our message.

We use it to contact you about that specific thing and for nothing else. No newsletter, no drip sequence, no sales calls, no passing it to anyone. Reply "remove" to any message and we delete your address.

Some of these pages also ask one or two optional questions about your setup — fleet size, operating-system mix — to help us understand who the idea is for. They are optional, they have a "prefer not to say" option, and skipping them does not affect anything. Submissions from these forms are stored in OpenSight's own systems, not with our website host.

If you join one of these lists, we also record how you arrived: the site that referred you, and any campaign tags carried in the link you followed. We keep this deliberately coarse. For a site that is not ours we store only its name — for example www.linkedin.com — never the full address you came from, and never anything you typed into a search engine. For our own pages we keep the path, because which article sent you here is the part that is actually useful to us. We use it to learn which of our posts and channels reach people, it is stored alongside your other answers, and it is deleted when you are.

5. Email you send us

If you write to us, we keep your message and your address so we can answer and follow up.

Note that some of our written communication is handled by autonomous AI agents operating under human supervision, which means a message you send may be processed by one. We describe this in full — including which identities are AI agents and how to request human handling — in our Impressum.

Who else processes this data

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We do rely on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions:

  • Ghost(Pro) (The Ghost Foundation) — hosts this website, stores blog-subscription records and sends our emails.
  • Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC — Google Analytics, as described above.
  • Cloudflare and Fastly — content delivery and protection in front of the site.

Some of these providers operate infrastructure outside Switzerland and the EU, including in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the providers' standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards.

How long we keep it

  • Logs and security data: a short retention window at our providers, then automatic deletion.
  • Analytics: retained by Google under our account settings; aggregate reports may be kept longer than individual records.
  • Subscriptions and early-access lists: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you, or until the thing you signed up for is over.
  • Email: as long as the conversation is relevant, and then no longer.

Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law — and under the GDPR where it applies to you — you can ask us to tell you what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop a particular use of it. You can withdraw consent at any time, and you can object to our processing.

Write to roman.huesler[at]opensight.ch. We will answer. You do not need to give a reason and you do not need an account — if you joined a list with only an email address, that address is all we need to find and delete you.

If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or to your local supervisory authority in the EU/EEA.

Cookies and browser storage

This site uses cookies for two things: keeping the site working (for example remembering that you are signed in to a subscription), and the analytics described above. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time.

Separately from cookies, this site stores one small entry in your browser's session storage, named osFirstTouch. It holds the referral and campaign information described in section 4, so that if you fill in a form later in the same visit we can tell which link first brought you, rather than whichever page you happened to be on last. It is not a cookie, it holds no identifier for you, it is not readable by any other site, and your browser discards it when you close the tab. It is written on any page of this site you reach from a link elsewhere — but nothing leaves your browser unless you choose to submit a form.

Changes to this notice

If what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. We will not make a change quietly and hope nobody notices.
